Braidwood’s creative services team are specialists in media relations. We understand how to communicate to groups of stakeholders and what impressions are required to reach them using the most cost effective media. We understand that the key to media relations is remembering that ‘Good Media’ rarely comes to you. We need to extend the invitation. Conversely, ‘Bad Media’ pounces on you, so you must be prepared. A good media relations strategy should include ongoing activities ensuring your product retains a strong public image with activities that help the public to understand your product. Similar to effective hotel advertising and promotional strategies, effective media and public relations often depends on implementing a well-designed plan. Elements of the plan include a description of what you want to convey and to whom, who is responsible for the various activities, by when, and how much is budgeted to fund these activities. Often, public relations are conducted through media such as newspapers, television, magazines, etc. allowing for little control over the final printed message, at least, not as much as you do when advertising. Reporters, columnists, and writers decide what they will say. Hospitality media relations strategies take several forms in most hotels, ranging from publicity to crisis management. Most large hotels have positions dedicated exclusively to media relations while in smaller and medium sized hotels the responsibility becomes part of the General Manager’s duties. However, when it comes to media relations, every hotel executive has a degree of responsibility at all times when either managing a media campaign or public relations crisis. For this reason, it is paramount for all executives and managers to receive training in managing media relations. |
